Another fun dinner of favorites (Amali in NYC): My first time I think with a very dry sherry (esp one this old). It was towards the end of the night and I wasn't taking notes so take with a grain of salt, but I remember thinking it was quite interesting not least because it's 100 years old. A quicker finish to it. Not over the top. More a wine made for sipping with something else (perhaps chocolate?).
90's Burgs, TBA's, Madeiras and a Sherry (John V.'s): I seemed to like this more than the group. Very interesting wine. Iced tea in color. The nose has a nice toffee quality, but I would not say it was "sherried". There is a fair amount of heat, which partially blew off with time. Toffee with a slight green note on the palate. It is dry as a bone and IMO needed some food to really show itself. I tried going back later in the night, but my palate was shot from sweet wines to go back to this. Nevertheless, this would be great early in a meal or with salty hors d'ouvres. This bottle had been purchased about 30 years ago and cellared by the original owner.
