Everything I love about Zin in one bottle. Brambly, nice long spicy finish, a few herbs, blackberries, and a meaty quality that went really well with burgers. Only quibble, if any, is that it was slightly raisiny but to a degree that added complexity rather than took over.
2nd Annual 7 Deadly Zins tasting…well, 10 (My place, parramatta, sydney): Aromas of toast, red and black plums, biscuit, charcuterie, slight sweet spice and very light herbaceous notes. In the mouth the wine has flavours of juicy plum and cherry, more spice - almost peppery - here, quite concentrated with fine slight talc like tannins. Some alcohol warmth on the long finish and quite savoury notes as well. nice.
Nice on day 1, Wednesday night, but having it again here on a Saturday afternoon and it's now delicious. Rich and mouth coating, the feel is now a bit more viscous/not as thin, and just beautiful! Wonderful bright, ripe cherry and sweet pipe tobacco from start to finish, a bit of menthol (especially mid-palate), & a touch of licorice and dried herbs on the finish. Taste just keeps coming at the end thanks to the sides of the mouth being so well coated. My previous bottles were all real good, but I'm thinking this is coming into prime at this point, and that decanting for a couple of hours minimum would benefit your experience substantially. Wow. With the exception of the 2007, this is as good as any Vineyard 1869 I've tasted from Scott. I may have to buy more! 91+ pts. I didn't even have this bottle recorded, just had 3 listed as gone and reviewed, so this turned out to be a surprise and a real treat!
