  • What a treat! perfectly harmonized and reflective of both age and wonderful wine making. Does not display the heights of Hermitage elegance and subtlety, but it does combine a host of foresty, smoke, dark cherry, and deep cherry in the middle, to produce a mellifluous , richly textured experience. Notas syrah driven as one might expect.Long on the finish. Definitely ready to drink up. interesting that, unlike the evolution of the older styled 1978s, this 1990 shows more power and fruit rather than medieval forest.

  • The nose showed blackberry, citrus rind, minerals and hints of pepper. On the palate, it was soft, with a medium weight showing cherry, herbs and hints of salinity. The finish was medium-long and refreshing.

  • Brick fading to brown edges. Laurie's first impression was "paint thinner" which can't be a good sign -- her later comment had a leather reference.

For me, the wine is probably a decade too long in the bottle. The earthy, leather tone at its best fades into a sweet syrupy flavors. Medium finish. Oh well, one bottle left to drink.
