  • Early Mar 2024, Rheingau Gourmet Festival, rarity diner “25 vintages of Chateau Montrose”: according to the sommelier double decanted for up to 3 hours; deep dark red color; slightly restrained bouquet of cassis and other red and dark berries; aristocratic texture well-balanced by a juicy acidity. 91-92/100

    Vintages of flight I:

  • 8 years since my last bottle. This was late at night but this has come together beautifully. Much more resolved than previously, this has wood spices on the nose and then layered dark fruit on the palate. Excellent freshness. Hard to believe that this was still only 12.5% given the density on the palate. Tannins fully integrated. Good length too. In its peak drinking window. 93-94

  • I definitely liked this bottle. First glass PnP at restaurant, the rest of the bottle was cleaned and decanted. Drunk over an 1h or so.
This Montrose impresses for its elegance and finesse. Since the first sip you can understand the touch of the grand vin, even tho it’s far from the muscular character we are used to with this boy.
Underbrush and tilled Forrest soil with a frame of Dried blackcurrant and raspberries expressing a sense of sandiness. Blind I would never called Montrose but have to say that the sand was present and evident. Driving good minds to the right lido up north of Medoc.
What I loved about this bottle is that an hour after lunch - after coffee and a sip of delicious Rhum - I could still perceive the taste of this Montrose coming from my stomach. I’m a good sense. Wired to hear I know but it was actually a very nice feeling.
    Really enjoyed it.

  • PnP but drank over 2hr. Black center with crimson bricked edges.

On open, full of VA, so much so that I thought this was DOA. However, it blew off after 30 min. Mushroom, saddle leather, soy, black soil, touch of concentrated cola on the nose. The palate had bright red cherry, red raspberry, sweet citrus, and a gorgeous medium length finish. Plenty of acid to go the distance, but not sure this gets better.

Paired perfectly with Morgan Ranch wagyu kabobs in a gravy over baked rosemary red potato cakes.

Oh no! on open, 91 after 30 min, 92 after 45 min and held there.

  • Splash decanted an hour. Very nice wine that drinks fine now but not in the league with the best of Montrose. Not in decline but I would be drinking now even though it is more about the primary blue fruit than anything else. B+/A-
