An elegant, non-fruit-forward barbera, driven more by acidity and soil. This is really crystalline and pure; pale ruby with hints of soil and tea. Restrained and best for food-pairing, but not lacking any character.

7 days in Italy.; 6/16/2012-6/22/2012 (Italy): Barbera is the second most planed variety in Italy. I did not know that (was that Dana Carvey in old SNL?). 2010 was a little cooler vintage. Here neutral oak and used barrique. Higher density plantings. Red fruit, brown leafy. Black fruit depth on the palate. Some ease of tobacco leaf freshness.

Crushed black fruit, lots of acidity, and a slightly smokey, moderate finish.
