  • A better example than my April 2020 bottle, although that was a better note. Fresh and bright red and black cherry with a faint bit of earth and rusticity sitting in the background, more mostly stylistically clean I’d say. Palate is primary, fine, easy going, needs more power, concentration, and length, doesn’t punch with the weight of a Grand Cru.

  • Good nose right off the pop, candy apple, bright raspberry and strawberry, rustic, sauvage, and even a little animalistic. Quite open and forward. Not overwhelmingly complex but has a bit of everything to keep it smelling interesting. Seems to have a lot of stem which I like. Browns very quickly, fresh pour makes a difference before the fruit turns bruised in the glass. Off and on but quite a nice a nice nose actually. Unfortunately this is a disaster on the palate, at least initially, with stewed and tart fruit that is nothing like the nose suggests. Completely out of sync and unpleasant. Gets better with some time, but a shame as it smells great. Coming back to the palate after 90-minutes open and it’s quite a lot better, although still somewhat angular and thin. Smells 91 drinks 89.

  • A good bottle of wine. Not sure about the QPR. On the one hand, it drinks somewhat like a Burg half its price. On the other, its a GC from a not-so-easy-to-obtain climat at a reasonable tariff. Call it a wash, maybe. Fairly muted aromatically, but pleasant. Leans strongly to the red fruit side of the scale on the palate. Good balance and vibrant acidity. This house has a rep of not aging well, but this wine might be an exception -- though its awfully good now....
