I've had Amarones before but I never focused on the ingredient grapes. This has Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. Rich red and black fruits, medium structure, long finish and polished tannins. Close your eyes and this could pass for a high end California Bordeaux blend...at half the price.
I drank this bottle with my wife over dinner at Monica's in Boston's North End. Wonderful wine. Inky purple color, complexity and flavor profile similar to a very good cabernet based wine, but with the softness of a dolcetto or cote du rhone. A bit of dustiness in the flavor profile. It paired well with the lamb chops I ate.
Decanted for 45 minutes. What a great red! Intense, fresh, powerfull and very complex! Wine is at its best form now, so enjoy! Drab dark red, almoust purple, golden rim. Incredible coffee on nose, like just out of the expresso machine. After breathing, ripe plums, black pepper, soft oak and powerfull aroma of fresh, salivating green bell pepper, really distinctive. Hints of chocolate and earthy. On palate, full, soften tanins and live, inebriant acidity. Flavours take turns, currants, chocolate liquour, spices, oak and coffee. Just like the nose, the highlight here is the green pepper, so fresh! Intense on every corner of the mouth. Finishes long, savoury, exotic and delicious. Beautiful amarone!
