  • Setting: This wine was opened and slow ox’d over 6 hours.

Sight: This wine is bright with no evidence of gas or particles. Color is light purple at the core but fades to ruby about ¼” to ½” from the meniscus. Medium concentration of color. Legs are thin and move very quick down the glass.

Nose: This wine does not smell flawed. Primary aromas are of red fruit; strawberries and red cherries specifically. Secondary notes of wood spice. I pick up very little oak or heat on the nose. Aromas are round, ripe, and of medium intensity.

Palate: This wine is medium bodied. This wine has flavors of cherries and strawberry. Enveloping round mouthfeel, nice structure in the background. Flavors are crisp and last a long time. Secondary flavors of spice and a hint of greenness that adds, not takes away. There are traces of mineral. Little to no heat.

Structure: This wine is dry. Acid is medium plus. Alcohol is medium. Tannins are medium and well integrated. Finish is long. Complexity is medium.

Conclusion: This is really good bottle of wine. Nice tension, with flavors, tannins, and acid in good balance. Not terribly complex, but worthy of a midlevel CdN 1er. Mouth feel is very nice; round and ripe. Flavors change over time, as the fruit and the wood spice compete for primacy. Has the acid to last a bit longer, but unsure of whether it will improve. Drink now and for another 5 or so years.

  • Nose is weak, just faint notes of strawberry jam. However, the palate is very structured and balanced with earthy flavors, tart fruit, a touch of rhubarb, hard rock, and mineral. The longer I wait to swallow; the flavors just seem to intensify … The rhubarb disappears, but the tart fruit, earth, iron, and mineral just grow into a long finish. Doesn't seem that old and I think this can easily go a few more years to soften out a bit.

This was my first NSG. This wine has a whole different taste profile than what I’ve tried to date. It’s amazing to actually experience the wide range of flavors across the vineyards of Burgundy.
