First day: high in alcohol, muted nose, very closed still. Second day: much better, but hard to define. The wine is in balance and has enough complexity and finish to like, but needs more time in the cellar to show what it really has to offer.

Cherry, blackberry, coffee, graphite and 5 spice are joined by earth and some intriguing orange peel on the nose. Some prickly alcohol heat is the only question mark. With extended airing, the aromas also include some lantana, lawn clippings, and deli meats.
Flavours generally replicate the aromas, but toned down by comparison; almost closed. The wine has a dusty tannin profile, nice acid freshness, and displays reasonable length. Alcohol is not as noticeable in the mouth.
Opinion: Solid wine. Almost cabernet-like on the nose with airing. Needs time to unravel and open up. Give it 5+ years and expect a high potential for improvement.

Monthly tasting club "The Tasting Club"; Chateauneuf du Pape (@ My place): Red fruits like raspberries, herbs and spices and some dark berries in the bouquet. On the palate red berries, garrigue, autumn forest and mushrooms, fresh acidity and pleasant bitterness
