  • Some found this a bit bretty, I didn't notice it in my already drunk mood. No detailed note made.

  • very fruity tropical nose; palate is very fruity, but lacking some acidity for good balance, still delicious right now

  • Bright, zippy and mineral. Slate and gun smoke flint. Mango peel, cantaloupe melon skin, candied grapefruit peel, dehydrated powdered ginger. Slight spearmint note.

  • Prior bottle was only eight months ago and while I'd considered saving this final bottle for longer, yup, that didn't happen! Opened at 47F, warming to 50F and perhaps it was the slighter cooler temperature, but this bottle felt a bit less "tropical" and a bit more focused than my prior bottle. Apple and pear on the nose with some floral qualities, just a touch of richer peach and some slate/mineral qualities. Medium bodied with lots of tropical notes upfront (pineapple, mango and golden peach), but this time, they were much more tempered by orchard fruit (apple and pear) and more noticeable tart notes towards the back of lemon, melon and mixed citrus. The mid-body felt a little denser than previously and there was a lot of richness there, but it felt like the orchard fruit and tart notes were doing a better job of balancing the richness and potential sweetness of the tropical notes. Acidity felt about the same, but I may have underestimated it last time as sometimes it serves to conceal, rather than simply come across as in-your-face tartness and electricity. Impressed with how this bottle showed and again goes to prove that with a great producer like Prum, vintage is less important and while there will certainly be differences year over year, the quality level is so high, buying it every year is a no brainer.

  • Peach, apple, almond and mineral on the nose. Prior bottle was nearly two and a half years ago and this wine has evolved quite nicely in that time. Medium bodied (8.5% ABV) and opened at 48F, warming to 52F and was the most expressive on the warmer side of that range. Retains the tropical upfront character (mango, pineapple, golden peach) with hints of orchard fruit now behind and then the acidity based flavors of lemon, lime and green melon. The acidity is still a notable component, but it has started to blend into the fruit of the wine slightly. It may be slightly more tropical than typical for a JJ Prum wine, but the acidity is holding up quite well. I may save my last bottle until 2019 or perhaps even later to see how this evolves.
