  • Not pricey, not Barolo, not Barbaresco, but still a wonderful wine that is a complete, and well tuned expression of Nebbiolo. I have had the 2009, too. I think it was a somewhat better vintage for this wine than 2007, but don't miss the opportunity to get this one if the occasion arises. It is excellent.

  • Very nice Nebbiolo. Bright fruit. Nose moves from strawberry at onset to nice spice/anise. A little earth. The acid is up front and center on the palate, but the fruit comes out strong in the mid-palate. The finish is what holds the score back on this wine. There is a little harshness and the integration may be missing a little fruit and tannin to carry it to the level of really memorable. I found that this wine paired wonderfully with a mushroom ravioli tossed with sun-dried tomato and Parmesan. Score on this bottle was significantly higher than last one, and I remember that bottle is a much poorer light. Not sure why.

  • C'mon, we've all been there, the master producer whose humble appellations always significantly out punch their weight class, and routinely embarrass the theoretically higher class competition. For example, I'd take pre-2007 Poggio di Sotto Rosso di Montalcino over 90% of the Brunello's you'll ever come across.

This guy, I mean Flavio Roddolo, flies so low on the radar he could be running drugs across the Mexican border, but everything he touches is beautiful and classy, regardless of the label. No exception with this bottle-absolute rejection of chemicals, native yeast, neutral oak. Decanted because I knew it would be a little rough on the pour, which it was. Within an hour it was open and showing beautiful notes of red fruits, anise and rose petal, medium bodied and perfectly balanced, ending in a persistent but not aggressive wall of tannins. Certainly not the depth of Barolo, but neither is the price, and again, a textbook rendition.

  • Dobbeltdekantert. Mursteinrød farge. Varmt treverk, lær, sursøte bær og tørkede roser på nese. Syrlige røde bær i munn. Litt bitter munnfølelse, men moden og tilgjengelig vin som munner ut i en kunsktørr avslutning. Perfekt matvin. Holdt seg bra på dag 2. Ypperlig vin til 15 euro.

  • D3h. Light red showing maturity. Generous bouquet of dried roses, old casks, some red fruit. Well balanced harmonious palate, perfect mature tannins. Really a joy to drink. Fine now but can be enjoyed over the next 2-4years.
