Surprisingly good. Drank from Coravin. Full bodied, ever so slightly acidic and sour overbalancing out the remaining black fruits and decent tannins. Long finish, with mature secondary characteristics present. Would likely have been better 10 years ago, but still enjoyable.

Perhaps it was the company it was competing against this night, but this simply didn't show as expected. That said it was still a good bottle, but nothing remarkable.

Seems to be on the downside but still plenty of life left. Medium bodied with earthy nose and palate of stewed black fruit, espresso, and redwood. Still some tannins of the finish. Pop and pour for me but would guess decanter time would improve complexity and density.

Cakebread Cellars Benchland Select 2002 is taken from hillside vineyards where the mountains meets the Napa Valley floor. With about half of the fruit coming from Oakville and the other half coming from Rutherford. It is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Malbec. In a 10 year retrospective in 2012, RP scored the wine a 91+ and noted that it tasted younger than expected and predicted that the wine would improve for another 10 years and last for another 30. The flavors are well integrated with a rich complex taste of oak, spice and black fruit. I bought this wine at the winery after a tour two or three years ago. Interestingly WS did not rate this wine though the 2001 of this wine was given a score of 80 and the 2003 was scored an 88. I Coravined the wine so the first and second nights tasted about the same. I have found that some of the older wines do not hold up well when exposed to air for more than one day.

Nicely matured Cali cab. Not overly complex but smooth and full with a nice finish. Reminds me more of a Bordeaux wine than a Napa cab.
