The nose is most like a Cab right from the Valley floor with a generous dollop of oak on it. It doesn't have that darker, sterner mountain quality this bottle usually does. This also seems to have an all out conflict going on between the fruit and oxidative forces. That oxidation is circling around but the fruit is still there holding on for now. It's probably a bit far along for most people. Old wine apologists will be cool with it. Not the best vintage for this wine but also a good example of how this well this ages.

Last had this 7yrs ago, and that bottle was wonderful! This bottle, my last, is even more brilliant! Beautiful youthful garnet, plum color...intoxicating nose of dusty old cellar cedar, leather, crushed berries/olives, menthol, dried cherry and tobacco spice. Smoooooth and silky in the mouth, with just the slightest of tannin left...more sour skin acidity than the last bottle, which refreshens the old boy, but makes the finish a little sour and dry. Very pleasing old school stuff here! Complex and engaging flavors...olives, plum liqueur, wintergreen tobacco, nuttiness, leather...mouthful of plushness and pleasure. Everything is in perfect balance...tame and subtle...nothing absurdly out of whack. They just don't make um like they use to!

BYOB at Melograno in Philly with my mother's family. Decanted for two hours. Preserved strawberries, cherries and dried herbs. Really nice oak notes too. Medium bodied and very smooth. This wne is drinking GREAT right now!

2nd oldest bottle I've ever had! Took a while to open up, but was shocked at the fruit and structure that remained. More cab like than a merlot, but was enjoyable. Score is probably a bit higher than it should be based on my low expectations, but it gets credit for aging so well!

Chicago Wine Flock...Gary Opens Cali Cab (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Still alive and kicking with mature black fruit, rounded textures and savory spice. I thought this was a 30+ year old Pomerol.
