Dinner with the wine group (Zazie's, San Francisco): Medium-high intensity aromatics, lovely balanced nose with lovely fruit, an elegant spice throughout, slight heat; palate is light bodied, high tannins, a tad rustic but elegant too; medium finish. A lovely wine for the price, at peak or even young. 90-91 Compared to the Brovia this shows better balance in the palate, not as much showiness on the nose. 92 This keeps improving. Really lovely balance on the nose and the palate, and just delicious. 92-93

Mature and round but not plump. There's a llittle soy, tar and floral notes with a redder fruit profile than the other vintages . Nice structure and balance with a sense of minerality. Drinking at peak and unlikely to iimprove from here. A strong '95 and nice surprise. 93

cocoa and warm dark berry smells off the bottle which continues into glass...very fresh. Color is a luminous, transparent brownish red. Palate is simple at first. Fresh dark berry and almost a little tart, almost apple-y. Not much secondary development, maybe just a hint of tobacco. Tannins are mostly resolved. med finish.

Gala Dinner at Antonio Galloni's La Festa del Barolo (Four Seasons Restaurant, NYC): [Double decanted around 6:30pm.] Spicy with bright cherries and drying tannins on the finish.
