This was only marginally better than the '97 Arrowood Syrah that David opened. David gets tons of oak on this wine; very Pride. I get a murky, soupy, dark palate. I don't get much oak on the nose, but to me the oak is more textural, in its creamy softness. Not at all my style. Glad I sold my bottles years ago and never bought any more. Celebrating Jennifer's PhD.
A revelation. I did not like this wine when I purchased it from the winery on release. IT was dense and beefy with no finesse. Tonight I popped and poured and it was juicy smooth and pure. Delightful from front to back and without the ponderous high alcohol and extracted feel of so many rhones on the market. Sadly, I was drinking alone.
