Tasted by mimik on 12/27/2009 & rated 92 points: Decanted 2 hours. The nose initially was restrained but became more present with lovely scents of flowers, cherries and dark plums, vanilla and some spices(clove, pepper). The palate, although enticing, did not follow the nose. Lots of sour cherries and vanilla with copious amounts of acidity, which frankly is surprising given the vintage. Not a Wow wine nor as enjoyable as previous bottles but decent nonetheless. A definite food wine. I think it may have closed up after the decant. Hold. (324 views)
Tasted by Jochems on 12/18/2009 & rated 95 points: Another great bottle!
Much in line with the previous bottle. Perhaps slightly more ripe, and the finish now seeming to last for ever.

I opened the bottle 8 hours before dinner. The first glass directly after opening the bottle was one dimensional and lean. It needed quite some time to open up. A decant might have helped. But I'm getting more cautious with that. I prefer the 'slow-ox' approach. (349 views)

Tasted by pbjosh on 10/18/2009 & rated 70 points: Bretty with a bitter / hard / metallic palate, poopy nose. Boo. I hope my other bottles haven't bloomed like this, I'll put them in the queue to drink soon, as this wine went from being a stunner to a solid consistent bottle to disastrous. (650 views)
Tasted by benny on 9/19/2009 & rated 96 points: Still going strong. Wonderful aromas. Black Blackberry, black blueberry and black raspberry. Rich blend of Itailian Cab Sauvignon and Sangiovese with a little Petit Verdot. The finish long. (749 views)
Tasted by AtlantaBill on 9/14/2009 & rated 89 points: Very dark, almost black. Aroma of blackberries. minerals and dark fruits. Flavor of blackberries and minerals. Long finish. (771 views)

Tasted by jakearoe on 4/17/2009 & rated 89 points: Once again I'm just not convinced that this wine has developed well. It was a very nice wine for sure, but not the blockbuster I personally thought it would be after my first bottle in '07. It has softened a lot over two years, and has many pleasing components. Not going to realize it's early promise imo. (1146 views)
Tasted by benny on 4/5/2009 & rated 96 points: Time to drink. I think it's peaked. Improved since my last bottle of 4/29/08. Do not often agree with WS but this wine is special. Will drink the rest of bottles in the next 2 months. (1257 views)
Tasted by Employee500 on 1/31/2009 & rated 90 points: This ultimately reminds me more of a nice California Zinfandel than an Italian Cab-blend. In any event, it's got soft, sweet fruit and relatively silky tannins. A little too ripe and sweet for my personal preference, but I'm sure it'll have its fans... (1233 views)
 Tasted by tannic.bastard on 1/25/2009 & rated 93 points: Fantastic. (1288 views)
Tasted by futronic on 1/24/2009 & rated 93 points: TWC 5-Year Anniversary Dinner (Crush Wine Bar, Toronto, Canada): Decanted 1 hour. Opaque ruby/burgundy colour. Cool nose of mineral/slate, blackberry, eucalyptus, and black licorice. Medium-full bodied, initially quite closed but opens slightly to show blackcurrant and herb notes on the palate. Good structure. Moderate finish. Still needs time, but this has really developed nicely over the last 3.5 years. Cellar for another couple years and drink for at least the next five after that. (926 views)
Tasted by mimik on 12/25/2008 & rated 95 points: Stunning. Dark cherries and rip cassis with some sublte oak. Well structured and sexy wine. Good to drink from now onwards. (1253 views)
Tasted by vinaigre on 12/20/2008 & rated 95 points: Montreal Offline: End of Year 95+ tasting 2008 (Restaurent le Bleu Raisin): Very deep rube red. Nice nose of red fruits; cherries, raspberries, strawberries with oak and vanilla, also some notes of thyme. Nice smooth mouth feel with well integrated tannins. Very nice finish.
Refreshing to have tried this one after the dud we had a few months back (1327 views)
Tasted by Jochems on 12/20/2008 & rated 95 points: Deep ruby colour with some purple at the rim, almost black at the core. Rich aromas of ripe black fruit and some raspberry with hints of spices, mint and tobacco. Following trough full bodied with silky and layered tannins, lots of fruit and a great acidity balance. Long finish that follows trough seamlessly from the palate.

What a great wine! It has developed more than I expected. Much more harmonious and smooth right now. There is still lots of structure left to age. But considering its development right now I would say drink now - 2015. (1270 views)
Tasted by jakearoe on 11/5/2008 & rated 90 points: We'll have to see.... (1325 views)
Tasted by vinaigre on 9/20/2008 flawed bottle: Montreal Offline: Tuscany (Restaurant Chez Christophe.): Tuscan tasting / Served blind
Corked, second wine of this tasting I was looking forward to try that is defective.. (1262 views)
Tasted by pbjosh on 9/10/2008 & rated 91 points: Smells like leather, blackcurrants, tobacco and pencil shavings. Fairly extracted but not in a bad way. Low in acid with some remaining tannin. Give it a couple more years though no harm in drinking it now. (1464 views)
Tasted by tannic.bastard on 6/15/2008 & rated 91 points: Decanted three hours. A very polished nose of integrated flowers, meat and dark fruit. Somewhat more subdued on the palate but still showing excellent body and integration of flavours. Tannins could stand to soften a bit, but overall a very impressive wine that I look forward to revisiting. 91+ (1564 views)
 Tasted by rickym13 on 5/27/2008 & rated 93 points: (1211 views)
Tasted by benny on 4/29/2008 & rated 95 points: The aromas explode when you open the botttle. Dark blueberry some raspberry and a wisp of tart.
Dark purple colour that show the 60% cab. The smooth tannins show up. The rich, subtle long finsih lingers.
This wine is in it's prime...but the tannins suggest it will last many more years. This wine has much improved since I last tasted 1 year ago.
This wine is a treat. Very delicious. (1750 views)

About red wine
SuperTuscan Blend refers to wines which feature a significant Sangiovese component combined with grapes not traditionally associated with Italy like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This separates it from "Sangiovese blend" which is used for wines which are predominantly Sangiovese and combined with traditional Italian varieties. There is often confusion as many wines most famous associated with the term "Super Tuscan" like Sassicaia, Masseto and Ornellaia have no Sangiovese and are properly linked to 'Red Bordeaux Blend.'

In fact, Super Tuscan was a term coined to refer specifically to wines such as Sassicaia and Tignanello. These were wines that "fell out" of the official DOCG classification of Italian wines because they either contained grapes not permitted (international varietals such as cabernet sauvignon or merlot,) were aged differently (I.e. in barrique) or were 100% sangiovese - which was not permitted at the time for Chianti (E.g. Fontodi Flaccianello.) Forced to be classified as simply "Vina di Tavola" these wines nontheless quickly found favour in international markets and comanded prices above the highest quality DOCG Chianti Classico & Brunello di Montalcino wines at the time. The wine industry and press began to refer to these wines as SuperTuscans? because of their popularity and quality, but also because of the prices they commanded. Subsequently, the Italian authorities, under the Goria Law 1992, redrew the classifications, and included the category IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) to classify the SuperTuscans?.
