Nice, easy drinking, soft, round, open, plummy, licorice and chocolate coated, black cherry filled wine that is not going to make old bones. It's drinking well now. I am not sure there is much to be gained by aging it longer.
Drank a family get together at our house, following 1997 Phelps Insignia (96 points). This held its own as a follow up and confirmed my earlier note that this is starting to evolve to match Parker hype. Classic bordeaux flavor profile and tannins starting to resolve. Decanted for 45 minutes before first pour. Could wait another year or two and will be good for a long time, but don't hesitate to break one open.
It was a dark & stormy night! Massive merlot, massive fruit and tobacco, coffee, currant all wrapped up in a hearty dose of rather bitter tannins. Huge potential for a heavyweight luxurious wine but this bottle was consumed far too early. 4 more years! 4 more years!
