  • Une belle robe brune jaune bois. Le nez est sur les feuilles mortes, feuilles vertes, rancio et bois. Bouche puissante, longue, piquante, astringente, asséchante. À ce prix j'aurais aimé plus de définition.

  • From half-bottle. My last note reads that I would have a hard time envisioning why I would want to open a bottle and drink a glass of this. Well, the last time I tasted this was a summer afternoon outside; it's winter now and I just had a black label paleta delivered. A deep, rancio nose with notes of marmalade, hazelnuts, caramel, and saline. The palate is very similar, though perhaps a little more acid driven than the nose might have implied. Lovely concentration and depth, but I do wish there was a little more breadth here.

  • Saturday hangout (socially distanced) (Chicago, IL): From half-bottle. I liked the Coliseo more than this, but that wasn't the prevailing opinion of the day (I think the group was largely split). This doesn't have quite the same explosive freshness of the Amontillado, and instead you get more a darker complexioned character both on the nose and palate. This is perhaps a little more caramel than fruit driven, and the fruit here is definitely the dried fruit kind of flavour. As well, the salinity isn't as intense here, though the overall viscosity and power of this wine are pretty similar to the Coliseo. Both are outstanding, but I just have trouble envisioning when I would actually want to open a bottle to drink a glass.

  • Gorgeous brown/amber with some orange/green on the edges. Intense nose of iodine, like the ocean air, leather/smoke, and perhaps some toffee/caramel in the background. The finish is complex and long lived with nutty undertones. With an ABV of 22%, I plan to enjoy this in small careful portions over the next days-weeks. It just keeps evolving in the glass. Highly recommend pairing with a slice of well-aged cheddar. I can’t imagine dry sherry getting much better than this. It is not cheap, but it is very much worth the price. Outstanding.
