Unchanged in the past two years when I wrote, “Pomegranate in color at the core and at the rim. Pomegranate, cranberry and black cherry carry the wine from nose to finish. Some cola with some vanilla on the finish. Nothing over the top. Just a good solid wine. And is that .... graham cracker?” 14.9% alc. Opened after the Ridge Virtual Tasting and eaten with andouille sausages and leftover ahi seared tuna. Recommended.

Keefer Ranch in Sepastopol is known for full-bodied wines. And Loring wines are highly extracted. This Keefer Ranch is overly extracted for a Pinot. Very dark, opaque. aging with the brick red color moving away from the rim. Powerful dark fruit aromas, some spice. (decant for an hour as the wine has a funky smell with popping the cork) Blueberry pie taste, and mouth-filling, medium acid and no tannins, this is a one-dimensional wine even after 7 years in the bottle. Short to medium finish. Not my style of pinot.

From 375 ml bottle: This was the best Loring Keefer wine, yet. Lovely red and dark fruit, flowers, some spice and a nice perfume. It was such a lovely pairing with our Indian food from Cross-Culture (especially with the vegetable pakoras, the Malai Kofta and the spiced lamb seek kebab). The candied quality of the red fruit had matured into a darker and more savory fruit and the remaining sweetness in the wine was a perfect foil to the spicy Indian food. Drink now.

For a wine from a “weak” vintage (is that possible in California?), this stuff is delicious. In other words, it’s kick’n, it rocks and an easy pour down the gullet. Pomegranate at the core and at the rim. Pomegranate, cranberry and black cherry carry the wine from nose to finish. Some cola with some vanilla on the finish. Nothing over the top. Just a good solid wine. And is that .... graham cracker? 14.9% alc. With grilled (beef) burgers. Recommended.

Getting to the end of its useful life, this one is still nicely sweet and candied, plum and black cherry fruit, little tannins and mild acidity, but still has a lot of ripeness. Juicy and tasty. Very nice Pinot but drink up.
