Thought this was just outstanding and somewhat better that the 2009 we also had recently, that was looking just a tad tired.
Real complexity here - violets and dark fruits on the nose, but in the mouth there's really meat and blood flavours - chargrilled steak. There's blackberry/raspberry too, along with pepper, spice and a hint of vanilla from oak. Vibrant but balanced acidity and silky tannins. The best shiraz i've had in quite a while. It will cellar but I can't imagine it getting better than what it is now.
I was a bit disappointed. I expected a cool climate shiraz (syrah) but this is better described as a more modern take on Eden Valley/Barossa shiraz. Like a Penfolds with French oak and less winemaker intervention (and lower price).
