Opened at a tempranillo tasting of Rioja, Ribera del Duero, & Toro. This had a deep garnet color and was rich fruit and full bodied. Had cigar box and plums. Finish went on forever. This was the wine of the night, but this is definitely a modern take compared to Lopez y Heredia and the like.
Angst (2T): Deeply fruited and quite open. Black cherry, plum, spice. Slightly chalky mouthfeel. Excellent structure, with plentiful acid and tannin, though the tannins are quite soft even on open. Certainly not a "traditional" Rioja, but very yummy. Had alongside the 1994, and this one was much more open and pronounced. Excellent.
A traditional Rioja on steroids. Giant black fruit along with wood spice on the nose and palate. Very ripe flavors and dried black fruit to the point where tasted blind I would have thought this was an Amarone. Monolithic and a bit alcoholic on the finish. I am not sure how this will age--well I don't think it will age, but rather it may 'last'.
dark transparent red ruby with amber rim developed secondary & tertiary elegant aroma of wet earth, fungus, and pepper with hints of cider wood. rich, soft round firm tannic, balanced acidity & bitterness, harmonious, ripe cherries & plums, pleasant long after taste. Unique Artadi style of modern Rioja. Seems at its optimal - though has still many years. Let yourself sniff it and enjoy during long minutes.
