Poured after a 3hr decant. This wine is a Syrah, Mourvedre and Grenache blend that is the darkest garnet in the glass with a ruby halo. It offers redolent aromas of cherry, blackberry and oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with the same, cherry, blackberry and oak, as well as subtle hints of soy sauce, leather and earth. The wine has a lengthy white-pepper infused finish. It's enjoyable now, but has the tannic stuffing to improve with another 2-3 years in the cellar. While Villa Creek wines are never shrinking violets, this one has a litheness and elegance - despite a 15%+ alcohol level -, which distinguishes it from your syrupy Paso fruit bomb. For purposes of comparison, Villa Creek produces wines with flavor profiles similar to those made by the hyper-talented McPrice Myers.
