9/12. Aargh, poxed. First casualty from the case that has been very consistent thus far. Sickly sweet nose. Colour more evolved but not obviously gone, but nose is a no no.

Palest straw. Enticing nose, mineral, a squeeze of lime and a touch of flint. Exudes class. Fine chalky texture, lots of grip. Nicely neutral through the mid palate with a long, finely textured finish. Proper wine. ****

7/12. Something completely atypical on the nose here cf previous bottles. Very oatmeal with a slightly volatile lift. Mellows a little after a couple of hours in the glass, but really not there. Strange. On reflection, a sound wine, but excessively leesey, maybe the bottom of the barrel/tank when racked off. Just atypical cf previous bottles (and next bottle) from the case.

Lunch at La Trompette (La Trompette, London): Pale to faintest mid straw. Initially served too cool. Some classic PY if you know to look for it. Opens to a nicely mineral-framed, lithe and energetic wine with a sense of breadth without every being as big boned as the Batard. Lots of energy here. Long and lovely, and entering the zone. ****

Back on form. Minerally, a touch of oat richness and warm butter. Some density here. Shoulders broadening. Baby Batard, some elegance. ****
