Decanted for 2+ hours. The nose was intense and intoxicating. Each of us took at least a couple of minutes to just bury our nose in the glass before we tasted the wine! On the nose we got blackberries, a little baking spice and some floral notes. The taste was loaded with really dark, intense fruit - more blackberries! Long finish. In short, a terrific wine!
This was a party for 18 friends. The Dirt Worshipper was one of the standout wines of the night from amongst a dozen wines.
Sunday Brown Bag Tasting: 2009 Gigondas (Hoyer's): Deep inky color with aromas of black fruit, incense, florals and spice. Full-bodied with firm, sweet tannins that are remarkably approachable given the structure and power here. Flavors of blue and black fruit, mineral, spice and blackberry liqueur. Long finish. The Viognier really shines through here. Impressive.
