  • Great bottle. Funk blew off after 30 mins and this was singing.

  • I love Cameron Pinot's, and have had some/a few/a lot of every year since approx 1993. Opened this '03 Clos Electrique tonight to pair with Traeger'd Spring Chinook. Looked forward to it all day long. First off, I'm well aware of the famous Cameron Funk - - and I like it. We opened the bottle while the salmon was smoking for approx 1 hour. First reaction... a NASCAR tire burnout smelled from about one block away - - combined with an equal amount of barnyard. It was a strong scent and taste, just not from the thick of the smokin' tires, or the fresh goopy stuff from the heel of your boot. Not offensive, but the burnt tires was definitely there. At this point I'm thinking this is a big mistake to pair with the delicate oily salmon.

Okay, 2 hours later. The 'funk' did not totally blow off - - but it's not offensive. Given the choice, I would have paired this wine with a heavy tomato'y italian dish... to include some sauteed red peppers, sweet onions, sausages, and sourdough bread instead of the salmon. Regardless, John Paul crafts another interesting Pinot. ...Bottom line - wish I had another bottle.

  • I love the Cameron funk -- love it -- but this was oppressive. Never blew off to speak of. When it sort of did, the wine was dominated by stewed fruit.

  • I agree with the note from July 2009. I have also noticed this in a lot of Camerons that I have cellared. Its a bummer because they are so fresh and pure in their youth and then they take on the reductive character with bottle age. Underneath the burnt rubber flavors and aromas there is a classic Dundee Hills nose of spice and fresh red fruits. The reduction wont blow off though :(
