Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): A bottle in excellent shape. Too bad what has been preserved, well, isn't really worth preserving. Charmless wine showing only structure, and why do Rostaing's wines all taste like the barrels have been used as ashtrays?

The nose is more interesting than the palate with its nuances of flowers, olives, herbs, pepper, and red cherries. The wine wants to feel soft on the palate, but as much as it tries, it cannot shake its firm character from the peppery red fruits on the mid-palate and finish. Drink from 2023-2030.

The wine that I was most excited about for the dinner which is saying something since we drank quite well that night. It didn’t disappoint though. I’m definitely a Rhône fan and this was drinking very well and continuing to open up in the glass. Very enjoyable.

Magnum, opened in the morning and decanted about an hour or so before drinking. The wine is pure poetry in a glass. Wonderfully floral nose. In a perfect place now, at least from magnum.

Tasted blind. A complex, smoky nose with soil, bacon and dark fruit jumps from the glass, characterful. The palate is dense but well balanced, tannins resolved. A great, mature Cote Rotie.
