  • Still tannic but plenty of fruit emerges after an hour or so in the decanter. This is my last bottle which was properly stored. I'm not sure the fruit will maintain its presence.
You can certainly hold your bottles now but not forever. A well-made wine.

    Grade of A-

Day 2-more tannic but still drinks well.

  • Friday Blind Tasting $100+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Black core with thin reddish violet rim; intense and young nose, coffee bean, wet earth, tar, oak mixed in, touch of VA, blue and black fruit, cedar and a weedy finish, weird combination of underripe and overripe fruit.

  • Excellent fruit (ripe black cherries, black berries, plums). Complex with a smoky earthy taste. After about three hours the various elements came together in a round, harmonious and mature wine.

  • Deep ruby with only a tiny bit of fading towards the rim. Forward, but well put together and decidedly complex, this offers aromas of dense dried blackberries, dried black cherries, cassis, grilled mushrooms, topsoil, and a generous amount of toast and oak spice. Full bodied and decidedly rich on the palate with mouthcoating texture, still lively - though well integrated tannins - and sunny flavors of dried black fruit and oak. This is a powerhouse and at this age it out performs many wines from Napa Valley that cost triple what it does.

  • This has improved greatly since last tasting 3.5 years ago. Opened and decanted an hour ahead of mixed steak leftovers. Nose brings cassis liquor and potpourri mixed with some eucalyptus and forest floor. The palate is full, square, textured, and juicy, bringing a well-balanced core of dark brambly fruit mixed with some high beams of red cherries and raspberries plus chocolate, coffee, tobacco, and soy. The finish is elegant with refined tannins. Feels like this is entering a nice peak window, so drink 2022-2028. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 93.
