  • Pop and pour. In a great place. Soft cherry fruit on the nose, with a hint of cinnamon/spice and some earthy notes. On the palate, very well-balanced acidity. Elegant on the palate, with just the right touch of tannin on the finish. Definitely has peaked.

  • We've tried the AW Vineyard-designate BTG Merlots three consecutive nights now: Ciel, Two Blondes, and Champoux. The latter was the clear winner, best fruit, very balanced, most enjoyable by a significant margin. All three wines were enjoyable, Ciel came in 2nd a bit more power and structure than Champoux, Two Blondes brought up the rear - a tad disjointed in our opinion. All three still drinking well, solid QPR, esp. the Champoux!

  • Decanted. This seems to be drinking fairly well right now. A mix of dark fruits, licqeuer, and the slightest hint of va tending toward something like balsamic vinegar (which actually worked well) on the nose. This seemed to lack the ``smoky" notes that I usually associate with merlot. On the palate, a fair amount of dark fruit, good acidity and a nice chalky tannic finish (fairly soft). I guess this is still fairly primary, but it's not clear how much this is going to improve.
