Deep garnet in color, with the slightest hint of browning. Red currant, raisin, plum and dust on the nose, which are repeated on the palate. A little port-like. Medium/full body, smooth/velvety texture and a medium finish. Past its prime, but still very enjoyable.

Pitted against a 1980 Dunn Howell and an 89 Mouton. This was the runaway star of the night with its great fruit, complexity and power. So good, I bought more and ventured into the the 1980 vintage as well.

Grace Cabernet Sauvignon (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Tasting of 7 Grace Family Cabernet Sauvignons. Label showed 3.5 years in limousine Oak barrels, the nose showed a lighter but rich extract with good bottle bouquet, medium cabernet fruit in the mouth coupled with medium soft tannins, and lacks the complex flavors found in the previous wines. My #7.

Slightly over ripe on the nose. Plummy fruit with tarry finish. Past its best.
