This bottle was absolutely fantastic. Most everyone here, including myself, drank this too early as it is a completely different wine at this point. Confident, interesting, and elegant with a plenty of old world charm giving energy to the red fruit and leather. If I rated wines, which I don't, I would give this 92 points for its captivating balance, however, balance doesn't win points here were this wine is only an 88. Shame as this is more interesting than 95% of wines I drink, many of them more expensive.
Too big and harsh on day 1 to enjoy. Two days later...much more supple. Baked cherry fruit aromas. Slightly sweetly stewed. Maybe some caramel? Pencil shavings. Woody, roasted veg and meat juices. Just a touch of a menthol lift. Palate delivers some fleshy sweet yet savory fruit. Very merlot. Some peppery heat in the mid palate, but not overpowering. Juicy through the finish. Leaves cherry and strawberry vanilla flavors. Very pleasant.
Continues to drink well - dark red color & throwing a light sediment. Red currants, black cherry, dill & menthol on nose. On palate, medium body with cassis, black cherry, dried cherry with medium+ acidity on medium+ finish. Really enjoyed this - has improved since my last note in 7/2013. 91-92 range. 92 if had to give a number. Rebuy.
I let this decant for a couple of hours...Ruby red with aromas of cherries and dark fruit. It was integrated, balanced, smooth and dry with cherry cola flavors and some minerality. This was surprisingly better than my previous bottles and had full Bordeaux complexities developed. It is drinking very well and decanting is a must to allow it to open up and not be so thin.
Enjoyable though less than extraordinary. Medium across the board with its reddish fruit, body, weight and other attributes -- though an impressive level of acidity. A decent everyday red, purchased for a fair $15 tariff.
