This was actually a bit of a disappointment in that I generally like Carmeneres. Unusual flavor and smell. Actually smelled a bit off, perhaps a bad bottle. But, nonetheless, not worth trying again.

A really dark colored, heavily extracted Carmenere from Chile. Quite value priced for only $8 at World Market. The nose is smokey, red raspberry, with some fruit cake, and cranberry. Not as big on the palate as the color and nose would indicate, I think they may have filtered out some of the good stuff. Seems just a little watered down.We don't get these types of flavors from anywhere else in the world. Even this value priced wine has indications of tree sap, Ricola cough drops, and ginger root, behind the somewhat subtle dark fruit. Some rustic tannins. Just barely medium bodied. The finish is a little weak, but still quite memorable, and distinct as Carmenere with baked blackberry, minerals, graphite, and grape jelly. Really pretty good for 7 bucks.

solid mildly peppery red seems like it would be good paired with pizza on a weeknight
