Screw cap. 13.5% ABV. Light lemon colour. Yellow fruit, ripe pear, grape, light earth, and intense white pepper spice, with good acidity and good length. Medium- to full-bodied, with a rich, creamy texture. Consistent on days two and three. Different from the rich, hedonistic 2012. Textbook GV.

(Ott Grüner Veltliner Rosenberg) ($61.00) Bernhard’s monument and my GV of the 2011 vintage. It’s a full-bodied wine, a thick wine, sometimes showing aromas like a Cotat Sancerre. The ‘11 is green-ripe and dusk-dark, mysteriously luminous and serious; it’s the last green song before the apotheosis, entirely unlike the Stein, more deeply lined and carved, more profound; a borealis of mineral flashes away — and yet still, a grip and focus unlike most ‘11s. ++

Very serious wine. Full bodied Austrian that can probably even improve with time. Excellent.

Look at my review for the 2011 Ott Stein GV and then add a succulent layer of 'baby fat.'
