One off from the recent large private party purchase (hard to price individual bottles, but probably about $70, which is more than I'd have paid otherwise, but I was trying to close the deal). Pretty much of a PnP in light of age, although the cork came out cleanly and youthfully. On the nose and palate, semi-sweet brambleberry, cherries, figs and just a bit of pomegranate, prominent balsamic and more funk than any non-French wine I've ever tasted (with the possible exception of Cain 5), dark flowers, anise, spice, kalamata olives with a beam of acidity propelling and extending the finish. Deep purplish black, medium to full bodied and thick legs. Intense acidity, medium++ tannins, no heat. Complex, intense and persistent. I'm sure that there's bottle variation out there, especially with a 18 y/o non-US wine, but this wine was completely different than what I expected. From prior experience with Aussie shirazes and a few recent TNs, I thought that this might be either tired or oxidized with a sweet tinge; instead, this was far more Rhone than Barossa Valley, as another taster noted. Bold, balanced and integrated, with powerful savory and saline notes, this wine showed no signs of age during the 3 days I had it open, if anything, deepening. More than solid on its own, it was an impressive companion to pizza. I haven't had this bottling before, but this strikes me as being in the midst of its drinking window if well-stored (and this is the 4th older bottle in this stash, all of which have been immaculate) with a likely 3-5 years of excellent drinking left. I thought that this was a 92 when opened, but it's improved a point and a half since. Recommended. 93+

Big freshly-laid tar, anise, hint of floral and blood sausage. Lots of fruit but whatever lumber it had has nicely resolved away. Surprising Rhoneish notes in an otherwise Barossa Shiraz.

Outstanding! Beginning to show its age, still with great Shiraz character.

Waited to long for this. Still good, but taking on cough syrup overtones. Should have drank five years ago.
