Visit to Domaine des Comte Lafon with Stephane Thibodaux; 3/20/2015-3/21/2015: A lifted, expressive bouquet, white flower blossoms, aniseed, blanched almonds and some bread dough. On palate, slightly rounder and richer than the Clos de la Barre. Big fruit weight and concentration. Nutty, mealy with some stonefruit flavours and mineral complexity. Again, there was more acid apparent with this wine than typically for the ‘12s. This wine was from a parcel the Domaine purchased in 2011. (Stephane noted that in 2011 there was bad flowering and in 2012 and 2013 extensive millerandage on this site). Sensational!
France 2013 - Côte d'Or; 4/20/2013-4/23/2013 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. Recently bottled. Lafon rents half of the vineyard from new American investors and the other half goes to Roulot. Once again a youthful nose of lime leaf, apple and a hint of spicy wood. Lively and fresh on the palate with vibrant acidity with citrus and stone flavours. Like the Clos de la Barre, a blast of lime and minerality on the finish. This is really pleasant already and should drink well for many, many years. A terrific young wine. 90+
