Despite the drinking window of listing peak past 2013, if cellared properly, the wine still has some life but likely not more than a year or two max at optimal conditions. Characteristic Bordeaux with prominent tobacco, cedar cigar box and hints of cassis. Tannins are well integrated and completely softened by day-2. Medium body on the palate and moderate length with hints of smoke fading.
Second Sunday Group: Douro reds (Frank's): Double decanted off its sediment and served nonblind with dinner about three hours later. Aromas of dark fruit dominate, with tobacco and sous bois notes as well. Has a subtle prune/raisin undertone that I do not care for. Tannins are present but mostly integrated, leaving dark fruit and herb qualities. Has a bitterness on the finish.
Some years ago this was most likely wonderful. Now over the top but still quite enjoyable. Nose very mature with tones of overripe blackberries. Also some undefinable chemical tones, vanilla, tobacco and chocolate. Short aftertaste and no "bite" left.
