Upon opening the bottle, the nose was a little odd and perfumed, but the tasting was delicious and removed any doubt. The bright, crunchy red fruit was complimented by a lovely mix of flavors: cloves, black pepper, and gravel. This ruby-colored, light-bodied wine really hit the spot on a warm day. Thirty minute decant recommended.

Geeks and geeky wines with GeekWire (Bottlehouse, Seattle, WA): My only prior experience with Zweigelt wasn't positive, so this was a refreshing treat. Poured from a 1.0L screwcapped bottle. The vintage was in hyper-small type on the back. Tar, soil, stem and leaf on the nose. The palate is all juicy fun though, strawberries and other boisterous red fruit. Clearly low in alcohol and showing fine tannins on the finish. Mmm, this is just good, clean fun!

(Willi Bründlmayer Zweigelt) ($18.00) A pure fruit explosion; you should wear a bib when you drink it. It’s mega-ripe (13.5%) for a Liter, fabulously sappy and addictively pretty wine, all violets and huckleberries.

Fruity with a light body. Could go with pizza.
