Opened up real tight at first, decanted half the bottle. Towards the third hour, well-defined quality secondary aromatics of leather, tobacco, oak, and a hint of dried herbs. Really dark and broody on the fruit side with dried ripe cherry, but well balanced with the secondaries. On the palate, full and powerful for a Sangiovese, in fact pretty masculine compared to other Sangioveses. [1855 Bottle Shop, Sixth Avenue @S$84.00]
Another excellent showing, a whole lot of charm, verve, and substance for the price. Immensely appealing bouquet; the type that makes you not want to put down the glass. Medium minus body, medium plus acid, light plus tannins. Rounded and bracing! Delicious!
no decant. carmine w/garnet highlights; dried cherry preserves, brown spices & wild herbal quality aromatics; med+ weight; a touch more ripe-ish at 5 years than this has been typically, w/herb-inflected sour cherries & cranberry-red apple confiture, broad & earthy palate, still taut, but acids & tannins are low-keyed & agreeable. maybe not as broad a drinking window as usual, but still a few years from optimal drinking.
