Pungent leather, balsamic, dried sour cherries, and hints of pine. Great structure, tannins slightly coarse but well-integrated. Needs a lot of air, didn't start opening until after a couple hours of slow ox followed by 3 hours in the glass.

Albino Rocca Winery Visit (Albino Rocca in Barbaresco): Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of floral violets, balsamic, earth, and mild oak. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, puckery high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sour red cherries, balsamic and earthiness. Very good quality. Showing some development already from this relatively fast maturing 2009 vintage. Probably another 4-5 years and this should be drinking excellently.

Lovely brownish rim, but only just starting to develop on the nose. It is drinking well now, and over a period of four hours in the decanter it only grew and grew. I think this has a long life. It is still fruity first and foremost, and the only critizism I got is the lack of a floral element, but it could develop. Still a very good wine, that was a true pleasure.

Soft and well rounded. Really like the floral scent on the nose. Drinks well maybe a bit light but overall a nice compliment to the food
