Fascinating wine I served blind to the group - all agreed it was a Barolo!
funky nose in a good way, not Brett. Long finish that does have elements of piedmont wines, but is probably more attributable to the terroir of Fontenys which is way up the slope from Ruchottes.
This wine was well worth the journey.

A Dinner Framed by Frederic Emile (Foreign Cinema, San Francisco): Fairly deep ruby. Pungent, gamy nose followed by the strongest imaginable scent of pine needles. This just bores its way right into the olfaction center. Medium weight, prominent dose of acidity which is not yet folded into the wine, black fruit, licorice and a profound sense of soil. Still very young with rough edges. Needs time but will always be rough and tumble rather than sleek and satiny.

Gevrey-Chambertin BYO Dinner at DUO (Duo, S Miami Avenue, Miami, FL): My proper contribution to the BYO.The second wine served. Reticent nose, muted but decent red fruit flavors. Was totally out classed by Abe's Clos de Beze - Dom Pierre Gelin. Thus far I am totally unimpressed with Bizou-Leroy's efforts.

Kind of funky at first, but then opened with leather, lilac, roses, and forest floor. Time to drink. Enjoy.
