Medium red with touches of both ruby and garnet. Evolved but still lively, a Pisoni Pinot by way of Clos de la Roche, this offers aromas of stewed red fruits, pomegranate molasses, chanterelle mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, dried flowers and crushed stones. Quite rich for Arcardian, assertive too on the palate, medium to full bodied with brighter, fresher fruit flavors and lively acidity. There's a bit of drying tannin too but it works in this masculine style. Delicious.

Full ruby in the glass with clarity. Savory aromas of braised dates, sandalwood, mushroom, hints of anise, smoked paprika, black tea and dried hibiscus. The palate focuses in on pomegranate and smoked fig flavors with depth of high-toned florals, earthen spices and hints of tar, cedar & leather. Well-developed middle, with pleasing elegant density. Very nice structurally, nice phenolics and totally integrated acid. The tannins are thick, developing polish with air (I do see Burgundy Al's point there as they started a little dry), before a nice breathy finish. This is showing very well, and still seems to have a long life ahead.

Opened 30 minutes before serving. Black and red cherry with background spice. Impressive balance and medium weight to start, better weight after another 30-60 minutes in glass. Slightly drying finish was a slight distraction. This was the first vintage with very extended barrel age, and I don’t know how well it worked in this case. I much preferred the 2007 I opened last week.

Lovely nose of rose petals, black pepper, sun baked earth and dark cherry. Great balance of sweet black cherry fruit and savory, earthy, peppery notes on the palate. Very elegant and restrained. Still young with lots of run room left.
