Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 22 notes)

Tasted by SimonG on 11/7/2009: Ray & Yolanda (Home): Decanted. Full golden yellow, might take this for a Sauternes just looking at the deanter. Ripe nose, floral, fragrant, some pineapple, pear and peach and also a touch of spice and smoke. Very ripe and rounded attack, vsicous texture bolstered by the 15%abv, but smooth and no sign of heat on this bottle. Mineral, good line and long finish with the RS (Indice 2) showing towards the finish. Good match with porkbelly and lentils. Lovely. **** (230 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 5/3/2009: Mid yellow. Typically PG nose; ripe with some sweetness on the attack, floral top notes, a smooth slightly viscous texture, some monerality and reasonable length. The 15%abv hits a little on the finish with a slight sensation of heat but overall this is smooth and relatively balanced. Lovely with lunchtime confit duck leg and ten again wth pork belly and lentils this evening. Drinking well nowand plenty of life left but not sure this will gain much with extended cellaring. ***1/2 (507 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 12/18/2008: Some peach and apricot on the nose which followed through to the palate. Rich and oily. (688 views)
Tasted by Cheryl on 12/17/2008: Sripraphai and Riesling (Queens, NYC): A bit of acid on the mid palate, oily with some peach, okay, but not for me. Served from 1/2 bottle. (654 views)
Tasted by psi on 10/4/2008 & rated 91 points: Complex nose of honey, pears, flowers, spice and smoke. Palate of white peach and minerals. Medium sweet and good acidity to back things up. Medium to long, slightly bitter finish. Lovely wine, good balance and very tasty. (617 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 4/20/2008 & rated 92 points: Nose: Aromas of springtime fresh air, flowers, spice and a little smoke. Palate: Amazing half sweet front end with an immediate dry finish (I have always found this cool attribute unique to Alsace), Flavors of peach, guava, and honey. Finishes cleanly but a little quicker than some other Zind wines I've had. Zind-Humbrecht is by far my favorite Alsace producer! (1013 views)
Tasted by egh on 1/20/2008 & rated 91 points: Shows slightly sweet, viscously textured, balanced, and complex with aromas and flavors of pineapple, peach, orange zest, and honey. (1219 views)
Tasted by egh on 12/16/2007 & rated 91 points: Expressive nose of pineapple, apricots/peaches, and orange rind with these flavors following through on the medium-plus bodied and concentrated, but at the same time balanced and rather elegant, palate. This was labeled with an indice of 2; while it showed a touch of sweetness through the finish, it did not present as "sweet," per se. The 15% alcohol stated on the label was undetectable. Outstanding wine. (1292 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 12/15/2007: viscous with flavors of honey and kumquat. (1286 views)
Tasted by goofy Yno on 12/5/2007 & rated 88 points: honey, pineapple,. good acidity, (1371 views)
Tasted by jivey on 12/5/2007 & rated 89 points: Backstreet Offline - Huge pineapple, apricot, still something about the finish that keeps this from being better. (1312 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 12/5/2007: eRobert Parker Offline - Best of Cellar (Backstreet Wine Salon, Phoenix): Pears and apples. A little bitter and acidic. Off bottle? (1986 views)

Tasted by wineismylife on 5/16/2007 & rated 92 points: WIML92,NOWA,WS92

Tasted May 16, 2007 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Weiss Wein glass. Nose of apricots, lychee and oranges. Flavors of apricots, orange rind and minerals. Medium acidity and body. Drink or hold. (1688 views)
Tasted by Winetex on 11/24/2006 & rated 91 points: This seemed fairly young with primary fruit flavors of citrus rind, peach and maybe some grapefruit. There was some smoke but light on the minerality. Balanced and tasty. (2179 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 11/24/2006 & rated 92 points: Dallas Offline with Winetex (Amici's in Carrollton, TX): WIML92,NOWA,WS92

Tasted November 24, 2006 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Weiss Wein glass. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of fresh orange slices, pineapple and whetstone. Flavors of minerals, oranges and a dash of lime. Good balance. Drink over the short to medium term. (2524 views)
Tasted by win on 10/14/2006 & rated 92 points: Blind Birthday Tasting (Win's House - Texas): This wine was very popular at the tasting—very complex tropical aromas that did not overwhelm the senses. Followed by toasted honey notes, but with a little bite of pink grapefruit skin shavings and spice, if that's possible. Very interesting wine. Great....more wine to keep a look out for. (2904 views)
Tasted by jamiekutch on 4/6/2006: TN: Nine Bottles of 2002 Zind Humbrecht: (Palo Alto): 15% Alc. Nicely balanced and structured in a lighter style again. This has elegance. Long lasting end. (2974 views)
Tasted by Not Levine on 3/31/2006 flawed bottle: Guest at STG Alsatian Tasting at Sea Garden (Sea Garden Restaurant, Bellevue, WA): Corked, but very lightly so. Great material under the cardboard. (2629 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 3/1/2006 & rated 91 points: 2002 Zind Humbrecht wines; 1/1/2006-12/31/2006: (Too late for a tasting note...) (2921 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 12/24/2005 & rated 90 points: For sheer quantity of taste, this wine has it in spades. Good white and yellow fruit, a bit of sweetness, and some of that bitter finish that permeates most all of ZH's gewurtztraminers. I found the wine to be a bit on the "simple" side, though, and even though the finish was of decent length, I think that this is a 5 year wine and not a 10 year or 15 year wine. (2655 views)
Tasted by Eric on 8/10/2005 & rated 93 points: Wow, this is a stunning young wine. The nose is loaded with peach, white flowers, and a certain oiliness and ripeness that just hints at the mouthwatering explosion to come on the palate. And indeed, the palate delivers a mouthful of lavish yet mouthwatering fruit, perceptibly sweet (rated 3 out of 5 on the ZH sweetness scale), impeccably balanced and lovely. Very nice! (2809 views)
