The fruit here is of the red persuasion and so perfumed, with a sweet jube-like quality. There’s beautiful floral spirit and a suggestion of licorice. It is rich and heady, immaculately proportioned and the finish drives on and on. Hard to believe its not Nacional, in fact one Port aficionado at the table noted that it could have been, as the label was a bit different and there was a section missing from it.

2016 FTLOP Holiday Party (Sammamish, Washington): Amber in color, which lightens to a clear edge. Good clarity. Some red fruit and dusty strawberry notes on the nose. Full-bodied, with an unctuous approach. Dried cranberry underlying the unctuous sweetness. A touch of cola on the long finish with a hint of spice.

This was part of a label-free batch of 1966 Quinta do Noval, but the cork (which came apart under the pull of the corkscrew) very clearly had 1960 branded on the side, which was a pleasant surprise. On the nose and on the palate, it was a great treat. Beautifullly aged. Fruit, showing pleasing signs of age, was still clearly present. Alcohol, acid and tannin all well resolved and perfectly balanced with the evolved fruit. In the mouth, it rewarded with a modest peacock-tail display. Last bottle of the night, but it still disappeared rather quickly.

Egg nog, chocolate, coffee, caramel, and spirit. Pretty good, and seemingly immortal/
