  • Strong Ethyl Acetate aromas that make this bottle pretty much impossible to drink. Loved the first bottle of this. Not sure if it started this way or if my passive "cellar" is just not cool enough to store these fragile wines over a summer.

  • A difficult wine to assess, it is nearly all high notes. Medium bodied, the nose presents blueberry, stones, 'dusty', cranberry. Tart cranberry and chalkiness are at the core. Ironically it seems the wine making style dominates over the varietal here. There was some settling and integration over time and I think it drank best the third night. I think this could go well against duck or venison with a (juniper berry reduction).

  • Unscrewed and poured. Aromas of cumin accented spice, rhubarb. Soft flavors of red currants up front. Chalk, minerals, spice dominate mid palate, nice cassis notes in the finish.

Balanced, pure, firm backbone, delicious and intriguing flavors. Wonderful.

  • I really really like this wine. Very light in weight, though actually a bit darker than I expected it to be given the low (12.4%) alc. Very much not a Rosé, though almost lighter (less harsh acidity, less alc) than most Rosé wines I've had. Completely dry. A bit of spice, a bit of acidity, a bit of texture, a bit of everything, which is why it ends up balanced. Would be a great pairing with most foods and would recommend drinking it with food, as the bottle will be empty quite fast otherwise.

Update: The savory notes (stems?) come to the fore with a bit more time in the glass. Can see this working very well with quite hearty fare (beans, vegetable heavy pasta, etc). Makes it a good "light" wine for the winter.

  • Excited to be able to try & compare both of Hank's new mourvedre.
I am a big fan of the Sumu Kaw syrah, so was glad to open one of these from my allocation of 4.

Color is a cloudy, medium red.

The nose is unique; bright red fruits, red currant, pomegranate, with notes of earthiness & wet stone, spice, and something I just can't place, but reminds me of elements of the Sumu Kaw syrah, and is very very different than the Cedarville mourvedre.

In the mouth, first opened, its tart & bright, more so than the Cedarville, despite slightly more ripening.
The flavor profile carries directly over from the aroma, with bright, tart red fruits, earthy notes, and a undertone
    of minerality.

A great, unique expression of Mourvedre. I am going to put the other bottles in cellar to see how develop over time. Too bad its 4 bottles and not 12!
