  • This bottle came from a different source than the previous 3. It was great and the freshest I had until today.

  • Described as a definitive vintage for Clerc Milon, this is a blend of 51% Cab, 42% Merlot and 7% CF.

    Preparation - No decant!
I was concerned about the fragility of this wine, with its age, and I have to say this was the right decision. Simply left in the bottle, and poured out gently to reduce the sedimentation movement.

Nose of polished leather with no funk remaining, blackcurrant and cassis on the palate with hints of cedar on the finish.

Tannins fully resolved, and adid is medium. Medium-long finish.

    Vintage report, 1990:
Changeable weather in the spring – cold weather in March and April followed by high temperatures in May – caused early but slow flowering.
    June and July were dry;
August remained dry and very hot, with several days of heat-wave conditions.

Veraison, like flowering, took place early but slowly.
A long veraison period means that the grapes mature unevenly, so that bunches where veraison is too irregular must be eliminated.
That having been done, the potential of the crop was exceptional.

The grapes were in perfect condition, very ripe and deeply coloured.
Fine weather in September meant that the harvest could take place under ideal conditions as regards both the maturity of the grapes and picking.

    My conclusion:
With this being a 33 year old bottle.. I have to describe the mouthfeel and body as medium- Amazing how a powerful structured wine such as this has mellowed so much, to the point of being silky with fully resolved tannins and light acidity over the years.

Yes, the best days may have been 5 plus years ago, but this CM 1990 is still enjoyable in its own way today. Lucky we popped it with a Durand as the cork was completely soaked through but it still did its job 👏 I love it!

Thanks Jack bro, who saved this wine all the way from the UK and France.. for tonight's welcome to Ipoh dinner for brother Teck Kong at Mun Choong. We paired this with the pork ribs, after being spoilt by the incredible large prawns!

  • Opened 20 minutes before tasting.
    Very vital color.
At first, strong smell of funk that dissipated quickly. After that beautiful aromas of mature pauillac. We drank this over 2 hours and the last glasses were the best.
No upside from here for sure, but could remain on this plateau for a while. I have two more and will drink them over the next 2-3 years.
