Had alongside Burgaud's 2013 Cote du Py and this nevertheless somehow came across as quite young. Rich and mouth-filling, but with nice red and black berries and good verve. Excellent acidity and good amount of fine tannin. A strange wine -- almost too big for Beauj on one hand, but with nice character and structure on the other. Either way, as an $8 auction purchase, this is an absolute steal.
2005 Morgons: Light, transparent ruby red. Floral in the nose with violet notes, fruit on the red side (raspberry, strawberry, red cherry), hints of oak. On the palate, it's structured, but overall light with very fine, slightly tart fruit, the texture is crisp. Quite long finish. Great Morgon that I may have taken as a Fleurie or Chiroubles blind.
I really liked the way this drank tonight. As others have mentioned, this is a pretty big Morgon, but not lacking elegance. Lots of silky fruit here, but also a lot of earthy and smoky nuances on the palate which make this very engaging and fun to drink. This is an excellent effort.
