Community Tasting Notes (11) Avg Score: 89.7 points

  • The wine is sound but losing fruit. On opening it was a bit unbalanced and light. As the evening progressed it lost much of its tannin and flavor. I hope this bottle is unusual. If it is not, drink up.

The stoppered bottle lived in the refrigerator for two days. Allowed to warm to room temp and drunk on the third after initial opening. The improvement was vast: well balanced, much more intense and flavorful. I recommend decanting. The wine has a lot of life left if allowed to breathe. I was surprised at the improvement. The quality on opening was just not apparent! I raised my rating from 88 to 93.

  • Consistent with last tasting notes but still hard and tight. Black tea, smoke, candied cherries, and even hints of cloves. Drink 2022-2030. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 91.

  • Opened an hour ahead of grilled rosemary pork roast. Dark, cloudy ruby color. Nose brings manhattan cherries, bitters, wood smoke, herbal notes, and cinnamon sticks. The palate is round, textured, and hard, bringing black cherries, blackberries, rhubarb, black tea, cloves, and anise into the finish, which is supple and quenching. Overall, more accessible than the last tasting 2+ years ago. Drink 2018-2024. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 92.

  • hour plus decant, still started out a bit pitchy with darker fruit profile, so with more time this aspect settled down to be pretty well balanced with darker fruit profile and good overall tension and fruit balance. No hurry on this one.

  • Opened and decanted 1.5 hours ahead of broiled king salmon, rice, and mixed salad. Cloudy, dark ruby color. Very nice nose brings sweet candied cherries, red licorice, hints of cloves and anise, and some subtle pepper notes. The palate is medium, tight, compact, and still closed, bringing muddled red fruit, some cinnamon notes, rhubarb, savory wild herbs, and unresolved oak. The finish is tart and dusty. HOLD and drink this after 2018, maybe even 2020. It has good stuffing.
