I had a very similar experience as MSUWine did. I did not decant and let the wine develop in the glass. On the nose was tabacco, dark fruit and a minor twinge of plum and I could tell this bottle definitely had some age in it. On the pallet was blackberries, more plum and cassis. I wouldn’t hold this bittle much long as I feel it has reached it’s peak, if not on the downward slide.

All Bevan wines do not age, but this bottle has, with an earthy and ripe profile that is quite appealing. I wouldn’t roll the dice and buy another one, but it was a nice surprise. Dark purple in color and full in body, this blend of Cab Franc and Merlot offers aromas of boysenberry, sage leaf, peppercorn, and oregano. The flavors are integrated and layered, with notes of blackberry, graphite, thyme, sautéed mushroom, and dark chocolate, followed by a soft, lingering, and savory finish. 14.4% alcohol. Decant an hour or so, but drink soon.

Wow! Just velvet right now with big juice (of course) but secondary and tertiary nuances are developing, predominantly on the nose and back palate. What really strikes me about this wine is just how well assembled it is. This isn’t giant tannins or mouth watering acidity that get us to an 11 year old wine drinking like this. It literally drinks at 15 minutes and 75 minutes similarly. It doesn’t need much time to unwind in the glass/decanter

Very dark and very much like licorice in a bottle. Opened and decanted. It took a long time to open and there was very little fruit left, just lots of tarry licorice. It was enjoyable, but not what we remembered.

First time to have a Bevan I didn’t enjoy. Corked shredded on open and had to use a Durand to finish it off. Wanted to decant for an hour, but life got in the way and it ended up being two. Coffe, chocolate, mocha, chocolate covered roasted coffee beans, acidic what I think might have been a touch a fruit. No improvement. Chucked 1/2 the bottle. An off bottle or perhaps too much air. Polar opposite of my prior bottle.
