oaky, party nose which blew off with some air, big and bold, dark black fruited, liquorice, dusty, earthy, full bodied but balanced palate, still primary, dark chocolate, blackberry, sweet, silky tannins, pleasant length

Appearance: medium ruby. Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of dark cherry, chocolate ice cream, dark plum, charsiu/HK style roasted pork, old furniture woody note, blueberry, vanilla, medicinal. It’s developing. Palate: dry, high acidity, medium plus silky tannins, medium plus alcohol, medium plus flavour intensity, flavours very much align with nose with a lot of cherry notes. The finish is medium plus. Overall, it’s a very good wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing. Drunk half bottle over 3 hours. Very complex and beautiful on the nose. However, the palate is a let down at this price point with nothing surprising. The tannin structure is great though, silky but present. The finish also falls quite abruptly after 6-7 sec, which leaves the alcohol still carrying through the palate (ie. burning). Maybe a bad bottle or simply not ready yet? At similar price point (even lower price), there are a lot of better buys. For instance, Dead Arm is a much better wine (as long as it’s sealed with screw cap). On day 2, there is more earthy and savoury characters especially at the end of the finish. Better than day 1. Alcohol doesn’t feel as stand-out as day 1 either. Would be fine to rate 93pts.

Dropped a few points for price. If ~$50 bottle this would get a few more points. Great balance, fruit present but not quite complex enough at this level. Tannins are perfect and it is a very sophisticated drop. Very much enjoyed it. Doesn't need to breathe much just aerate into your glass and enjoy.

Ripe jammy nose, lots of prune, ripe red fruits, raisin. Spice, mint, coffee, chocolate. Palate is ripe, jammy, blueberry, blackberry, cherry. Vanilla, toast, coconut, dill, cola, chocolate, cherry liqueur. Really oaky, like a sawmill, complex but masked by the oak.

Moncur Syrah/Shiraz (Bistro Moncur, Sydney): Concentrated and quite closed initially. Pretty black fruit. On the palate it is concentrated but not over the top. Tannins are quite fine and it travels long on the palate. Nice in a ripe liquorice and black fruit backed by oak way.
