Silky red approaching brown at the rim. Red raspberry and cassis on the nose with subtle earthiness. Tart brambly fruit leads into a more subtle mid-palate with a nice drawn out earthy finish. Nice, but not mind-blowing...on the verge of tired.
Still has deep ruby-red color. A bit cloudy though, maybe could have used more time standing up or a decant. Nose had tons of dark earth, sous bois, and woodsy with dark red fruit undertones. Very Charmes in character. The palate was a a bit murky and not as delineated as I would like. Certainly not like the 1995 or 1996. A very good wine, that folks at dinner think will improve, but I'm not so sure. I don't like the murkiness and am not sure it will ever clear up. If it does, it won't be soon. My guess would be another 10 years.
Amazingly dark and young appearing with the barest trace of lightening at the edge. Very perfumed right out of the bottle before it closed down several hours later, with blackberry, cardamon, and a whiff of smokiness showing. Fairly big wine but not too solid or clumsy, with blackberry/blueberry and plum cut by refreshing acidity. Not quite as complex on the palate as the nose had promised, but this really is young and should improve. As is, still an excellent bottle.
