  • interesting nose, popcorn, cream from the barrel ferment, and fruit leaning onto the riper and exotic, like kiwi and pineapple. Let down tremendously by the palate which is ripe, hot and uninteresting. There is no salt or chalky vibrancy in the texture. People comparing this to white burgundy are unqualified philistines who disqualify their own views with such a ludicrous claim. Tasted twice this year. Just to confirm its mediocrity

  • I didn’t enjoy the last bottle (opened after transport) but this is better. Lighter appearance but powerful on the nose and punches you in the mouth. Takes ages to open up (needs 30+ mins) and then has the expected ripe lime and mineral nose and the taste is big lime (incredible breadth) and very distinctive salty tangy finish. Low acidity but you wouldn’t notice with that salinity. Subtle oak tannins provide texture and add to the long finish. Clearly not Burgundy but like Puligny X Margret River. Everyone wanted multiple pours with garlic chicken. Drink to 2035, and peak in another 3-5yrs. Although classy, I still adore Giaconda Chardonnay more… 94+pts

  • Length wows straight up, I’ll use the expression hits you in the face as that’s the sort of impression it makes. Peach, melon, creamy oak, grapefruit, grilled nuts, honey. Love Leeuwin Estate Art Chardy. Not cheap but SO worth it.

  • long and complex, this White Burgundy look-alike is now entering it's plateau of maturity, I'd guess it will stay here for another decade.
Vintages like this confirm that this winery's premier chardonnay stands head and shoulders above every chardonnay produced in Australia (and elsewhere in the New World, for that matter)
Leeuwin always takes a decade to display its wares, and longer in top vintages like this.... but it is certainly worth the wait.

  • A little quiet and reticent this time out. Opened up after about two hours, but maybe my glass had some kind of residue? Will have to check on this again!
